AI Disruption Risk Score (1–5) for every Degree/Major in the top 50

Artificial intelligence disruption refers to the degree to which AI technologies are expected to change how work is performed within a career field. Importantly, disruption does not usually mean jobs disappear entirely, it more often means the tasks inside the job change. In many fields, AI is automating repetitive, pattern-based, or data-heavy work while increasing the importance of human skills such as judgment, creativity, relationship-building, leadership, and complex problem solving. As a result, most careers are shifting rather than vanishing, with professionals expected to work alongside AI tools to improve productivity and decision-making. Historically, technology has tended to transform jobs faster than it eliminates entire professions, and AI appears to be following a similar pattern.

The AI Disruption Score (1–5) is a way to estimate how much AI is likely to change the day-to-day work inside careers connected to a major or degree. A score of 1 (Very Low Risk) typically means the career requires physical presence, human trust, licensing, or complex real-world decision-making that AI cannot easily replicate, such as nursing or civil engineering. A score of 3 (Moderate Risk) means AI will likely automate some tasks but also create new opportunities and require workers to learn new tools, such as business, finance, or data-related careers. A score of 5 (Very High Risk) generally applies to careers heavily centered on high-volume digital content or standardized information production, where AI can already perform large portions of the work quickly and at scale.

For students and professionals, the score should be viewed as a career evolution indicator, not a warning sign to avoid a field. Higher-risk careers often still offer strong opportunities for people who move toward higher-level strategy, creativity, leadership, or specialized expertise within that field. Lower-risk careers tend to emphasize human interaction, physical work environments, or high accountability roles where mistakes have major consequences. The most future-resilient career paths will likely combine domain expertise, human-centered skills, and the ability to effectively use AI as a tool rather than compete against it.

Scale Reminder

1 = Very Low Risk (hard to automate, high human + physical + trust barrier)
2 = Low Risk (AI assists but unlikely to replace core work)
3 = Moderate / Mixed Risk (major task change, job evolves)
4 = High Risk (many tasks automated, role shrinks or shifts upward)
5 = Very High Risk (core output already being automated)
